Check out my resume for specifics on my 20+ years of writing, editing, content marketing and copywriting. But here's what I think is important to know right off the bat:


I work hard to make sure my editors, clients and bosses are happy and get what they need when they need it without a lot of hand-holding, edits, revisions or drama.
I'm a science nerd and love going down the research rabbit hole, then explaining what I learned in countless hours in a couple of easy-to-understand, fun-to-read sentences.
I can get emotional — in my writing, that is. I will tap into the emotions of your target audience or customer to tell your brand's story.
I wear a lot of hats both personally and professionally, so I'm not scared to jump out of my comfort zone and into new challenges and experiences. I may not always know what I'm doing, but I know how to take a smart, strategic approach to any project, I learn quickly and work well both collaboratively and independently.

I have written everything from science-heavy health features to beauty and fashion how-tos to trend pieces to celebrity profiles. (Ask me about the time I offered Marc Anthony a piggy back ride at Jennifer Lopez's house.)

    Sephora, L’Oréal, CeraVe and more through my work with HearstMade, plus Walgreens, Chicago Athletic Clubs, American Express, Squarespace, Tokyo Convention & Visitor’s Bureau and others as a staffer and contract writer/editor for Tribune Publishing's content studio. I’ve also created content directly for brands including Canyon Ranch, Equinox, Unilever, Head & Shoulders, Tresemmé, Vital Plan and more. I know how to tell a brand’s story and reach consumers within the editorial space, as well as present content strategy and deliverables to corporate clients.

  • Copywriting
    From helping Fila USA infuse editorial elements into its sales catalogs and writing one of its national ad campaigns to crafting press releases for beauty brands like La Prairie and Alaffia, I turn otherwise standard copy into a compelling read.

  • Book collaborations
    Tapped by Meaghan B Murphy to help bring her 2021 book, Your Fully Charged Life (Tarcher Perigee), to life, I contributed research, writing, editing and more, from concept to proposal to final drafts. Meaghan characterized my role this way: “There is a hamster on a wheel running nonstop in my head. [Beth] put that hamster on an actual course with a beginning, middle and end… on deadline.” Prior to working with Meaghan, the former editor of Self recruited me to collaborate on her two books, The Drop 10 Diet and The Drop 10 Diet Cookbook (Ballantine Books), for which I conceptualized chapter formats and transformed the complex science behind superfoods and weight loss into inspiring, engaging and easy-to-follow text while capturing her voice. The Drop 10 Diet was a NY Times Bestseller.

let's get personal...

I grew up in a suburb of Detroit, went to college in Kansas, then lived in NYC for nearly a decade. In 2009, Chicago lured me with its Midwestern charm, affordability and seeming glut of three-bedroom apartments (with outdoor space!), and I vowed to never leave. But 10 years later I did, moving back to Detroit to be near family. I have no hobbies since I'm too devoted to my clients to have free time. Just kidding -- I have two kids, which is the real reason I have no hobbies or free time. Just kidding... sort of. I love being outside with my family and friends, teaching HIIT classes at Shred 415, watching crime dramas, tending my garden, eating pizza, playing dominoes and euchre, drinking margaritas (this recipe -- except with more tequila, a squeeze of agave and a hit of seltzer) and trying to organize my house.
